India is due for election for temporary membership of the UNSC this year for the period of 2021-2020. India has long eyed for the permanent seat to the UNSC and has been vocal about it. By any criteria like population, GDP, geographical size, etc. India qualifies for permanent membership. Also, for this to happen the UNSC has to go through reforms. The UNSC, which was formed to provide security to the world has become a personal backyard for the 5 permanent members where they use their veto powers to decide on the fate of other nations.
