Its been 2 decades since US has sent boots in Afghanistan in its fight against terrorism. it is also the longest war that US has been involved in and the most expensive one. The Trump administration had promised to bring back the US soldiers and end the Afghan war during 2016 election campaign. However the deal US administration signed with the Taliban left out one the most important stakeholder of the whole peace process- the Afghan government. Also there is no formal cease fire and the agreement is only a step toward opening negotiations between the Taliban and other Afghans on a power-sharing agreement. The whole deal is currently shrouded in ambiguity and what it holds for future is currently unfathomable.
