The U.S. has slapped sanctions on 10 leaders of Hong Kong including Carrie Lam as a new step against China’s clampdown. Any assets held by them will be seized and any financial transaction made with them will be criminalised. In a statement, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin had expressed to the people of Hong Kong that the U.S. stands with the people of Hong Kong and would use its tools and authorities to target those undermining their autonomy.
