The article talks about the Right to Information of  the public especially during the time of a pandemic. The RTI Act, 2005, empowered citizens to access information from public authorities and hold them accountable. But, during the COVID-19 crisis, proper implementation of the law was not followed. As relief and welfare programs funded through public money are the sole lifeline of millions who suddenly lost their income-earning opportunities during the lockdown, they must have access to relevant information to obtain the benefits of government schemes. The article rightfully highlights the current scenario where most of the transparency watchdogs did not hold any hearings during the first three weeks of the lockdown. The article criticizes the government’s move in stonewalling the RTI applications about PM CARES fund.
