In 2019 the Rajapaksas returned to power, with Gotabaya Rajapaksa as President and mahinda Rajapaksa as PM. In their last stint, relations between India and Sri lanka went under strain as China became a factor in the relations. The recent visit by the Sri Lankan President and PM marks a new beginning in the India-Sri Lanka relations chapter. However, fault lines are still visible in the ties. India must move fast to improve ties unlike last time when China took advantage of the situation.
