The purpose of protests

The Supreme Court of India on the protests in Shaheen Bagh accepted that democracy is not democracy if dissent is disallowed. It held that “the mode and manner of dissent against colonial rule cannot be equated with dissent in a self-ruled democracy.” It further said that there cannot be indefinite protests and all protests needs to be done in designated spaces.
