
Early on in the fight of COVID-19 , Indians were encouraged to applaud the work done by the doctors, nurses, and and the health workers. But much has not been spoken about the hospital cleaners. While their work falls under essential services, the stigma attached to their work makes them precarious and devalued. Their working, living and socio-economic conditions puts a high risk not only to the workers themselves, but also their families and neighbours, the patients and doctors with whom they work as well. The article has highlighted their socio-economic conditions and how they have been neglected althrough these years even when there was no pandemic in our country.
