The manacles of caste in sanitation work

This editorial speaks on the inhuman nature of manual scavenging. It been long that abolition of the dehumanising practice of the manual removal of human excreta are being demanded and calls for the introduction of mechanisation for handling waste. However, a lot still needs to be done on provisions of safety equipment to sanitation workers. In India, sanitation work is caste-ridden and therefore, there is an exigency to dissociate caste from labour.
