The forgotten fact of China-Occupied Kashmir

After Article 370 was abrogated and the State of Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised, a China-Pakistan tandem has emerged to internationalise the issue. This editorial focuses on the history of insidious role played by China in altering the frontiers of J&K through fictitious claims and unscrupulous alliances with local chieftains. Simultaneously, it also takes not of the illegal border agreement of March 2, 1963 between Pakistan and China through which Pakistan handed over the Shaksgam valley in the trans-Karakoram tract. An important point mentioned in the 1963 agreement was that as per Article 6, after Kashmir dispute between India and Pakistan gets settled, negotiations between the People’s Republic of China and Pakistan will reopen to sign a formal Boundary Treaty to replace the present agreement.
