Bodos are the single largest tribal community in Assam. They form 5-6% of the Assamese population being a part of the Bodo-Kachari group. The Bodos have been agitating for a separate state since the late 1960s. The movement was fizzled out in 1985 after the Assam Accord but was revived in 1986 and took violent forms. In January 2020, the centre signed the Bodo Accord- an agreement for peace and development. While this is not the first accord to be signed the Home Minister described it as the “final and comprehensive solution” of the long-standing Bodo issue.
