The Army is now making efforts to make the SSC more lucrative. As of now, SSC is for 10 years and after that 4 years of extension can be made. The army plans to make it for 14 years and an option goes for permanent commission (PC), also other options are being considered. These steps have been taken due to the increase in the Army’s pay and pension bill. Even though the defence budget has gone up 68% in the last 5 years, salaries in Army have gone up 78% and pensions are at 146%.
