Russian President Vladimir Putin declared earlier this month the ‘approval’ of Russian COVID-19 vaccine, Sputnik V, named after the 1950s Soviet spacecraft. Nevertheless, the declaration was considered ludicrous by various scientists around the globe,
when approval of the necessary clinical study had only started before Phase III. The article describes the different steps of the clinical trials. The report also illustrated WHO’s alert, dubbed “vaccine imperialism,” and urged countries to collaborate to find a genuinely effective vaccine.
