
Raja Ram Mohan Roy (1772-1833) was the pioneer of the Indian Renaissance. He is called ‘the first modern man of India’ and ‘father of modern India’. Rabindranath Tagore called him ‘Bharat Pathik’ (Indian Pilgrim). Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru described him as the ‘Father of Indian nationalism’.
