Relevance:
The government has been trying to disinvest Air India for the last 3 years. Air India has accumulated debt of more than Rs. 50000 crore, in addition to routinely delayed flights, old equipments and poor service. Privatising the airline would cease to be a burden on the exchequer. Further, it would bring the state out of commercial business. Best practices from other countries should be followed to loosen the clutches of the government in the airlines.
