
China’s intention to boost infrastructure projects in Myanmar as well as increasing its influence in the region are prominent from the various development projects like the deep-sea port in Kyaukphyu, railway project for connecting Yunnan to Myanmar’s coastal cities, inland-waterway and megahydropower dam project. The primary objective of these projects are to increase the China’s geostrategic footprint in the Bay of Bengal. Simultaneously, cultivating Myanmar as a strategic partner also serves three other major objectives in Indian Ocean strategy (IOR) of China.
