Paleomagnetism

Paleomagnetism

Paleomagnetism is a branch of geology that studies the retention of magnetic properties in older rocks on the planet, allowing researchers to learn more about the earth’s magnetic field’s history. During the rock formation period, the magnetic properties, such as the magnetic north and south poles, are recorded, which shows the dip and inclination of the magnetic field. The shifting direction of the earth’s magnetic field and the past placement of tectonic plates can be revealed by studying the magnetic features of rocks from various periods.
