The Begum Hasina government conveyed a “deep concern” to Indian High Commission in Dhaka after India imposed export ban on onion. As per foreign minister of Bangladesh, AK Abdul, there was an understanding between India-Bangladesh that an advance information would be conveyed in case any of the two countries imposes any export-import restrictions. Despite India having its economic compulsions, onion being an essential commodity, the export ban at this critical juncture is likely to sour the India-Bangladesh relationship. The issue is important from the point India-Bangladesh relationship. The ban was put when the equation between the two South Asian neighbours appeared to be on the upswing.
