On Sunday (20th September 2020), the UN Secretary General Mr. Antonio Guterres while expressing his opinion about the fresh set of sanctions about to be reimposed by US on Iran, cleared the air about UN’s position. Mr. Guterres was extremely categorical in denying support to the US idea of reimposition of sanctions on Iran. Not only Mr. Guterres but many across the world shares the same view. The issue is important from the point of US-Iran relationship and hence also influences India-Iran relationship. Iran, till very recently was the second largest crude oil supplier to India and is also a long-term friend. Numerous Indian projects have got stuck in Iran given the sanctions imposed by US on Iran.
