The USCIRF has recently designated India as “Countries of Particular Concern” citing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the proposed National Register for Citizens, both of which were announced by the government in the past year. However the govt. has hit back at the USCIRF and the approach has been traditional which is, it has refused cooperation and has disallowed its officials to visit India. The designation is not going to affect the US-India bilateral relationship, however, it may damage India’s reputation.
