MPLADS, its suspension, and why it must go


The government has recently brought an ordinance to suspend MPLAD for 2 years. Under the MPLAD each MP has a choice to suggest the District Collector for development works to the tune of ₹5 crores per annum to be taken up in his/her constituency. However, this scheme is averse to cardinal principle of separation of powers and gives executive functions to legislators.
