Labour’s data lost

Major portion of the Indian workforce are ‘casual labour’. Informal workers contribute almost 50% of the GDP and majority of the inter-state labourers who contributes nearly 6% of the GDP are self-employed and have limited opportunities for building skills and increasing wages. However, Ministry of Labour has sought to focus its skill development initiatives more on formal sector. There is an exigency for better assessing the capabilities and enhancing the skills of informal sector.
