
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the sharing of the waters of the Kushiyara river, a distributary of the Barak River that flows through Assam and then on to Bangladesh, was signed by India and Bangladesh. The agreement comes at a time when fatal floods have struck Sylhet, Bangladesh, as well as lower Assam, India, underscoring the need for increased cooperation between the two nations on matters relating to irrigation and flood control.
