While health care professionals and scientists are struggling to cope with the human toll of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, policymakers around the world and in India are racing to stabilize their economies and mitigate the damage already inflicted on livelihoods, particularly from the poorer sections. The head of the International Monetary Fund for India, Ranil Salgado, addressed the big issues confronting the country regarding macroeconomic policies, development and poverty alleviation.
