The governor of a state is a political appointee, selected by the Union government. The Indian Constitution, under Article 153 to 162 provides for Governor’s appointment, his powers and everything related to the office of Governor. The role of Governor is quite similar to that of President at the Centre. However, since the Governor is a political appointee at the behest of the centre, there have been numerous occasion when the Governor’s position has been abused.
