India strongly maintains that the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh, including the Gilgit-Baltistan region are an integral part of our country by virtue of its fully legal & irrevocable accession. However, Pakistan illegally claims the area to be its and recently PM Imran Khan pointed towards making formal announcements and give constitutional rights to Gilgit-Baltistan. Inida has vehemently rrejected this move and demanded Pakistan’s immediate evacuation from all areas under it “illegal occupation”. Additionally, India has also protested to China against CPEC which passes through region. The issue is important from the point of India-Pakistan relationship and also from the point of India-China relationship as China’s ambititous CPEC crosses through the Gilgit-Baltistan region.
