Relevance: 

Food procurement and food distribution are part of food security in India. Around 40% of Indians live in abject poverty and are unable to avail nutritious food. The Food Corporations Act of 1964 set up the Food Corporation of India to procure food and was at the forefront of the quest to achieve self sufficiency in rice and wheat, managing procurement and stocking grain that supported a vast Public Distribution System (PDS). In the backdrop of the ongoing pandemic it has become necessary to analyse food procurement and distribution in India.
