First estimation exercise of Indian gaur in Nilgiris in recent years


The first population estimation exercise was conducted by the Indian Gaur in the Nilgiris Forest Division. The report has highlighted that most of the Niligiri Gaurs are living in “conflict-prone” areas that are close to human habitations due to fragmentation and habitat loss. The article also cites the reason as the study show these Gaurs avoid living in forest areas than human habitations as easy availability of food.
