Relevance:
Vulture population in India faced a decline of more than 90%. The population dropped from about 40 million in the 1980s to a few thouands in 2009. The major reason for the population decline was the drug diclofenac found in cattle carcass. Following this the veterinary use of the drug was banned in 2008. The delining population of the scavengers presents a range of ecological threats.
