Custodial deaths in India is proof of the unholy mix of unchecked authority and principles of democracy and constitutionalism. The stories of custodial deaths are heart wrenching and horrifying. It is also the proof of how ill trained the men in uniform are and their incompetency to follow the rule of law which they themselves are suppose to uphold. Strictures passed against policemen from time to time by learned judges of various courts notwithstanding, the police continue to brazenly torture suspects in their custody.
