There are over 4,400 criminal trials pending against legislators out of which more than 2,500 trials involve sitting legislators. Last Wednesday, Justice N.V. Ramana said that pending cases against former and sitting MPs and MLAs needs to decided without further delay. He said “the purpose of this adjudication is in public interest and to maintain public faith in judiciary”. He also pushed for setting up of special courts to expeditious settlement of the long-pending cases.
