Conservationists elated as Andhra Pradesh sees remarkable increase in tiger numbers

India accounts for 75% of the total tiger population. Tigers hold the top position in the food pyramid and is vital to maintain the ecosystem. Due to massive conservation effort by the Forest Department and many global NGOs, there has been a rise in the Tiger population. The Nagarjuna Srisailam Tiger Reserve (NSTR) is the largest tiger reserve in the country and the number of tigers is in the rise. The Census report was carried out by Wildlife Institute of India and National Tiger Conservation Authority show good results of the rising tiger population.
