Compound conundrum: On interest waiver

The Union government’s scheme for bearing the difference between the simple interest and compound interest on MSME and retail loans availed by borrowers has come not a day too soon. In spelling out the norms for lenders to identify competent beneficiaries & then ensure that the extra ‘interest on interest’, the government has clearly been spurred by the apex Court’s admonition to expedite relief to small borrowers.
