Army proposes 3-year stint for civilians

‘Tour of Duty'(ToD) is the first of its kind proposal to induct civilians into the mainstream army for a three-year short service. If implemented the civilians would be able to serve as both officers and other ranks. This move is expected to relieve the army of most of its expenses and free up funds as this service would not come with added benefits of pensions and other attractive severance packages, resettlement courses, professional enhancement training leave, ex-servicemen status, ECHS. The article also discusses the advantages of this scheme which will lead to freeing up its fund for Army’s modernization and also capture young and new talent from the country.
